Beautifully written. My background was a German Jewish dad and a mom whose parents and grandparents were missionaries in Africa. I have been an agnostic most of my life but several things in your blog are helping me move in a positive direction. Your words about nature,
'To this day, out in nature is the only place I’ve ever felt the presence of what people call God, or the sublime, or the spirit. I’ve felt God on mountains, watching desert sunsets, surfing waves, or listening to the noise of the jungle and thinking about the interconnectedness of life.' rang true and make perfect sense. Thank you.
Elaine, thank you for sharing your story here and being so vulnerable. I'm so happy that what I've written is helping you move in a positive direction! That's the best compliment I could ever receive :)
I have questioned religion most of my life and dived head first in countless science based books on the beginning of time to find the Source. I’m comfortable not fully knowing but whenever I’m outside in nature I have faith it will all work out in the end. When I meet Him I’m sure He is going to give my teenage self hell and a wink for lying about going to confession before my Confirmation. Why did I need to go to a priest to tell him my sins when God knew exactly what I did and how to punish me? I’m sure the priest who confirmed me was waiting for the holy water to burn a cross shaped hole through my forehead. ;)
I can relate so much with the thought of 'if heaven and hell are real, i'd much rather go to hell with all the passionate dreamers'. Also, I loved that you mentioned bartenders on the hell list, this craft has always delighted me and not many people would think of them in that scenario.
Oh, I would assume hell has great bartenders! I'm sure it's easier to get a drink than in heaven as well, in heaven I'll bet they make you fill out forms first.

Hahahaha this gave me a good laugh Kristin! I'm assuming you would look AWESOME with a cross-shaped hole in your forehead...
I was never a Catholic, but the more I learn about catholicism, the more it just seems like an endlessly beaurocratic nightmare.

My forehead is always ready when I walk into a Catholic Church haha
