Great article Aaron! It is something for today's youth to know about, that they do not have to make a decision at 18, they can get some work experience, travel, earn some money and then go back to their studies. They will be older, wiser, and will know more about themselves to know what they want to do. The statement you made - "18 is a ridiculous age to choose what you want to do with the rest of your life" - this is so true. I did not know when I was 18. Some people do, if they want to be a doctor, a dentist or a lawyer then they know for certain. But, the rest of us, including me, I did not even know. I realised many years later to go back to University to do a Film and Media Degree. You cannot put an age on education - you can return to study at any age.

Absolutely Miriam! It's scary how much money student loan companies make by creating captive audiences... You have a lot more of a chance to get out free if you wait, and a lot more of a chance of NOT changing your major halfway through, accruing more debt and spinning your wheels.

Wisdom beyond your years Aaron - and I have a significant number of years beyond yours. The headlong rush to get "educated" while racking up insane debt makes no sense but unfortunately seems to be the norm.

Thanks so much! It's a strange time, but I hope someone considers telling their kids to wait...

Well, this article was PERFECT for me. Just turned 18, got all my university places but to be honest with you, I don't even know if I want to go. I'll take a gap year, then maybe another if I feel like it. Your approach was certainly unique and gave me some great insight, thanks Aaron.
