What is a Mythmaker?

Myth: a traditional or legendary story, usually concerning some being or hero or event, with or without a determinable basis of fact or a natural explanation.

Why do we feel so disconnected, when the world is more connected than it’s ever been?

With world-class scientists studying happiness and human performance publishing books and flinging out podcasts left and right, we should be happier and more fulfilled than ever, right?

But we aren’t.

A Mythmaker stands above all of that.

A Mythmaker persists in building their happiest, most abundant life despite all negative inputs and limiting beliefs.

The odds don’t matter to a Mythmaker.

They’re on a mission to live their best possible life.

Maybe, like me, you’ve read a million happiness books, and they’ve fallen flat.

You’ve watched documentaries and chased answers from self-help leaders.

They’ve failed to explain why you feel that something is missing.

Meanwhile, the days and months turn into years, and you sit with this feeling of lost time, knowing that something could be better.

Life could be more fulfilling. Your relationships could be deeper. You could be in better shape.

I’ve been there. Three years ago, before I launched my world-spanning happiness quest, I was lonely, afraid, and anxious.

Thankfully, my job was so terrible, and my relationship so toxic that I hit a breaking point.

Once I was pushed over the edge, I ran away from that miserable life.

I broke free, spending two years learning to surf, investing in movement, sitting in plant medicine ceremonies, and talking to people from all over the world.

Through all those interactions and hours spent moving, I realized something deep and powerful:

The only thing holding me back were the stories I was telling myself.

Here are a few that defined my worldview before that life-changing trip:

  • “I’m a victim of my religious upbringing”

  • “I should have studied something other than teaching. Now, I’ll never earn a good salary.”

  • “I don’t care about the business world.”

  • “I’m great at starting exercise routines, but I never stick to them.”

These were just the tip of the iceberg.

Through studying myself, talking to people from all over the world, and sitting with my own demons far away from home, I finally understood that I was the only person holding myself back.

My Life Changed, and So Can Yours.

After sitting with and deeply examining my demons, I let go of what didn’t serve me. Let me tell you, it was HARD.

But worth it.

Within three months of returning from my trip, I was:

  • Making more money than I’d ever made (freelance and remote).

  • In a deep, loving relationship with the kind of partner I’d only dreamed of before.

  • In the best shape of life and getting stronger and more toned every day.

Several of my limiting beliefs had to die.

This was terrifying for me. Limiting beliefs are cozy.

They’re comforting.

They can help you explain mediocrity to yourself.

And they need to go, ASAP.

Now, I’m ready to give back.

After deep self-reflection, reading, and journaling, I’ve created repeatable frameworks that anyone can use to let go of negative beliefs and start building a personal legend that serves them.

That’s what I write about here at The Modern Mythmaker.

That no one is too far gone to start creating their own positive myths.
